The FGSJ team examined the remains of Fort Stewart, a small early 18th century fortified bastioned dwelling. The site and construction demonstrate the fears of the English settlers of the dangers posed by French coastal raiding parties and Windward Maroons located in the eastern mountain range behind the property.
Identified and brought to our attention by longstanding FGSJ member, Robert Barker, this is a very exciting site and we have asked Dr Ivor Conolley to provide a quote for an archaeological dig.
